How to Update GB WhatsApp Without Losing Your Chats
Because GB WhatsApp is installed from an APK, it never updates on its own. Running an old build for too long can lead to "this version has expired" notices or connection problems. Updating takes about two minutes.
Why updates matter
- New builds keep up with changes WhatsApp makes to its servers.
- They fix bugs and crashes.
- Older builds are generally easier for WhatsApp to detect.
Method 1: Install over the old version (recommended)
- Open GB WhatsApp, go to Settings, Chats, Chat backup and tap Back up.
- Download the newest APK (136 MB) from our download page.
- Open the file. Android shows Do you want to install an update to this existing application? Tap Update.
- Open the app. Everything stays in place because your data folder is untouched.
Method 2: Clean reinstall
Use this if Method 1 fails with "App not installed" (usually a signature mismatch).
- Create a backup inside GB WhatsApp.
- Check that the backup file exists in your file manager under
WhatsApp/Databasesor the GB WhatsApp folder. - Uninstall GB WhatsApp.
- Install the new APK, verify your number and tap Restore.
Keep your media too
Chats are in the database file, while photos, videos and voice notes are stored in the Media folder. Do not delete that folder during a reinstall and the media will reappear after restore.
Tip: check the version
Go to GB Settings, then Updates or About, to see your current version and compare it with the version shown on our homepage.
